Part 2 of FloridaPast summer 1960

_____________
with Much Appreciation to the Florida State Library

The following, is a film promoting the Hampton House Hotel in Miami, a business oriented to an African-American clientele. It describes how notable black men and women of the 1960s gathered there, such as Ralph Metcalf (gold medalist, 1932 & 1936 Olympics), Althea Gibson (Wimbledon Champ), Martin Luther King Jr., singer Jackie Wilson, and baseball Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. The film follows a formula similar to other promotional films, except almost everyone in it is black. The complete footage shows entertainment, the owners, a fashion show, dog and horse racing, the Miami Seaquarium, the Torch of Friendship, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, the Baltimore Orioles, and the FAMU Track team. Produced by Don Parisher.

By The River from Florida Suite

Frederick Delius (1862 - 1934) was an English composer who lived for a time in Florida near Jacksonville where he managed an orange grove. His time spent there was later recalled in his work, Florida Suite.
Florida Suite is comprised of four movements: Daybreak, By the River, Sunset, and At Night.
I have posted "By The River" accompanied by photographs representing the people and places that made up the Old Florida that existed before the invention of Air Conditioning contributed to the population explosion that so changed the state.
